Oldest Classes Talking Topics: Monsters have taken over Hangzhou...
Choose a monster. Tell the students how the outbreak of this monster happened. Next talk with the class as a group coming up with ideas of how to survive the outbreak of this monster and what they would do to survive. Come up with questions to help the conversation move along.
If the class can handle it, break up students into groups of 4 or 2 and choose a new monster and situation.
If the class is having trouble, continue as a class discussing a new monster.
Class Example: 100,000 Mummies have woken up from under West Lake. They have spread throughout the area and are now coming towards the school. All electricity and water has been turned off. What should we do? Where should we go? What should we gather to help survive? How can we kill the Mummies? How will we get food and water?
Group Example: A man hiking in the Tea fields was bitten by a poisonous lizard. He has now turned into a zombie. He is super fast and can climb walls like a lizard. But also, like a lizard, he gets energy from the sun, so he only has energy during the day. Every person he bites, is also infected and turns into a zombie. The zombies have spread quickly and now half the people in Hangzhou are zombies... All of the zombies are out in the streets, while the people are hiding in their homes. The only way to live is to get to Zhoushan island where the zombies can't swim to... But there are no trains... How do you survive. Decide with your group... Where are you? What should you do to survive? How do you get to Zhoushan? How can you fight the zombies?
Create an Example with the Class: Have the class choose a monster. Then have students create the scenario and record the information on the board.
Which monster...zombie, werewolf, zombie, witch, vampire, ghosts...
What is this monsters super power...
What is this monsters weakness...
How many are there...
Story Style: Use the same concept of ideas above with monsters taking over Hangzhou, But instead have the class or groups create the story of the Teacher in that event. Create the event or tell the event to the class and then, place yourself in the situation. Then have the students create the story.
Class: Have students raise their hands to tell what happens next. The teacher then repeats and expands on the idea of that student. Continue until the teacher survives or ... dies...
Groups: Create groups, and have students tell their stories in a circle. Each student says one sentence, and passes the story along to the next student until completion.
*Teach THEN, NEXT... as simple story telling vocabulary to continue the story...
*Emphasize the past tense if appropriate...
Example: (Name of student, or Teacher) Became a Werewolf on Halloween night. He/she had been bitten a month earlier by a baby Werewolf while walking through the Tea fields late at night. He/she didn't understand what was happening until the full moon rose on Halloween and in the middle of his/her class he/she turned into a Big Hairy Werewolf in front of the whole class. What happened next...
Then....
Next...
Then...
Example: A Witch with the power to turn people into animals has become queen of Hangzhou. Anyone who she doesn't like, she turns into a dangerous animal that attacks people. Now Hangzhou is a city filled with elephants, Tigers, Lions and other animals. The only way to stop the Witch is to steal her magic socks. (Name of student, or Teacher) and his/her family were eating at a KFC when the which walked in to order chicken wings. What happened next...
Then the waiter dropped her food on the floor.
Next the Witch turned the waiter into a tiger.
Then the Tiger ate Matt's Grandfather.
Next Matt Ran out of the Restaurant...

Games
Monster Dance Freeze Game: After a teaching drill is completed, young classes may like to dance and have fun. In this game have all students stand up for a dancing fun game. The teacher plays scary music on the tv with his/her back to the students. Students can dance and be silly, BUT when the Teacher turns the music off and turns around they MUST FREEZE. If the Teacher catches a student moving, the other team is awarded a point.
*Can also do other actions than Freezing (Example Turn into slow walking zombies while teacher is watching... then dance while Teacher isnt watching.)
Shoot the Ghosts: Place the "Ghosts" (Balloons in white and black trash bags) somewhere in the room. (Tie from pipes, tape to the board...) The object of the game is to throw balls and hit the Ghosts for points.
1. Easy: Each student gets 2 balls to throw at the ghosts for points.
2. Easy: 1v1: 2 students compete to hit a ghost with the balls. Winner receives a point.
3. Medium: Relay Race: 1 Student from each team must race to hit a ghost. Once the 1st student hits a ghost, the next student from that team plays. The game continues until all students from one team has thrown a ball and hit a ghost.
4. Difficult: All students play at the same time. They throw balls from a far distance to try to hit the ghosts. If a student hits a ghost, they sit down. Students continue throwing balls, until only 1 student is left... the Team that all students, hit a ghost and are sitting nicely, have won.
*Easy games, that can be played throughout class and within, Teaching drills.
Ghost Football: Have 1 or 2 "Ghosts" (Balloon in a White or Black Trash bag) on the floor. Students must, walk, or crawl around the class room BUT avoid getting hit by the GHOSTS! The Teacher walks around slowly, kicking the "Ghost Balloons" towards the students. If the Ghost touches a student, award the other team a point.
*Young children, must crawl for safety... Can play for a few minutes, without even hitting any students...
*Start with fewer students... (Choose 2-3 students from each team to play, then switch to other students the next round)
*If a student gets hit by the "Ghost" can have the student say a Halloween word to "save" themselves.
*Older Students: When a student gets hit, they are "OUT". Continue until there are a few winners.
