Shimmy Shimmy Y'all
Required: Dice
Game: Students roll the dice to "Shimmy up, or Shimmy down" the tree. They can choose to Shimmy up their own playing piece, or Shimmy down the other teams playing piece. When a team reaches the top of the tree they are awarded 25 points. Once a team has reached the top, then students from both teams can compete in "Shimmy Races".
Shimmy Races: One student from each team race in some manner. The winner is awarded 5 points. Each student that has been behaving well should be allowed to race once.
Pictures of races below...
1.) Heal Toe Shimmy: Students put their feet together and must shimmy across the floor sliding their heals and toes back and forth never leaving the floor. (Race to the board and back to their seats)
2.) Heal Toe Shimmy: Have to students do the heal toe shimmy around an object in the classroom and back to their seats.
3.) Bottom Shimmy: Students must shimmy on their bottoms, using their feet or hands to push them selves across the floor. Can choose for students saying only hands for this race, or only feet for this race. OR the students can choose which they prefer.
*Very simple and fun. Students enjoy going up and down the tree. I push my students to say what they want to do "shimmy up or shimmy down the tree".
*The races are really funny to watch as they are very awkward for children. IF a student does not properly shimmy then they lose and the other student (if they complete without cheating) is the winner. If its very difficult for young kids, let them practice the shimmy dance move a bit.
*Younger children probably can only do bottom shimmy.
