Catch It
Required: 2 balls, dice
Icons:
Star: Starting space or Choose a space on the board game
+5: Add 5 points to the team that lands on this spot
Thief: Steal all points from the other team
Double Ball: Game
Bomb: Erase 5 points from the team that lands on this spot
Wall Ball: Game
Typhoon: Erase all points from both teams
Games:
Double Ball: 2 children from the same team get a ball and stand a specified distance away from each other (5-10 feet depending on difficulty level). Children must throw the ball to each other at the same time (may help to do an example with the TA and explain some techniques... I throw high, you throw low...). Students try to throw the balls back and forth as many times as possible without dropping a ball. Each student and a partner get a chance to play and try to get the most throws back and forth. The pair of students that get the most completed throws is the winner and is awarded 10 points.
*I started with students standing 5 feet apart and once students were getting the hang of it I put them about 10 feet apart.
*If students are very young, One ball is difficult enough...
Wall Ball: All children from both teams stand up to play Wall Ball. The teacher will be throwing the ball off of any wall in the classroom, and the children will be trying to catch the ball before it hits the ground. When a student catches the ball, he/she may choose to "Kill" a student from the other team, (that student sits down and is out) OR "Save" a student from their own team (That student joins the game again after previously being "Out") The game continues until all students from one team are "Out". If the game is lasting too long the teacher can say "5 more throws". In this case the teacher will throw the ball off the wall 5 more times. The team with the most students "Out" loses and the winner is awarded 10 points.
*Students that cannot play this game safely should sit down immediately (If you believe the warning of sitting out a bit is safe they may join the game again, or play the next round)
*If students are very young, the teacher can have them sit on the floor and try to catch off of one wall safely
*Young students could also use a balloon or stuffed animal instead of a ball
