English Party
Required: Drawing space on the board for students, a bottle or pin to spin on the floor to choose the game
Icons:
1.) Describe: Speaking game
2.) Word Jumble: Spelling game
3.) Dummy: Charades type game
4.) Picture Race: Pictionary game
After each part of the lesson have a student spin a bottle or pin on the floor that will point to a corner of the room which correlates to one of the games on the board. Each game focuses on a different style of learning English and all are quite fun. This game is geared towards older children with a decent level of English. If you want to try with a younger class, I suggest having the teachers play instead of the students. (Teachers play, two teams of students try to guess the answers)
Games:
1.) Describe: Bring 1 student from each team outside the classroom and tell them a person, place or thing that they must describe verbally to their team without using the word. Students must only use words to describe, no actions.
Examples to use: Barack Obama, Beijing, Kite....
The first team to guess the word is awarded 5 points. Depending on how fast students win, play another round with 2 different students.
2.) Word Jumble: Write a word that all students know on the board, but with the letters jumbled. The first student to figure out the word is the winner and is awarded 5 points. Depending on how fast the students answer, play another round or 2.
*If its taking too long, the teacher can start slowly writing the word on the board until someone gets it
3.) Dummy: One student from each team is the "Mannequin" or "Dummy". Another student from each team goes into the hall to be told an action of some sort. The two students then must run inside to make their "Dummy" act out the action, with the rest of the students trying to guess what action it is. There is no talking in this game for the participants, only each student moving his "Dummy" teammate. The first team to guess the action wins 5 points.
Examples: Fishing, Riding an Elephant, Smelling Flowers...
4.) Picture Race: One student from each team goes outside with the teacher to be given a task to draw. The students must then run inside to draw it, and have their teams guess what they are drawing. The first student to guess what has been drawn is the winner and is awarded 5 points. If this is easy students can be told to draw with their weak hand, or draw in one continuous line, or with their eyes closed.
For younger students I might have the teacher and TA do most of the work (Drawing, moving the dummy, Describing the person place or thing) and have the students guess for points.
