Heads Up 7 Up
Required: Dice, Ball for Hot Potato
Icons:
Star: Starting Space (start here every time the dice is rolled)
Potato: Hot Potato Game
Typhoon: Erase all Points from all Teams
7: Heads up 7 up Game
Thief: Steal all Points from the other Team
Students roll the dice to decide which space they will get. Every time the dice is rolled the game piece starts at the star. There are 6 spaces on the board game that apply to the 6 numbers on the dice. The team that has the most points at the end of the game is the winner.
Games:
Hot Potato: Have all students sit in a circle spread out decently. The teacher will name a category to start the game. Students will then have 3 seconds each to say one word from the category and then throw the ball to another student. If a student is too slow, he/she is out of the game and returns to their seat. If a student makes a bad throw, (un-catchable throw) then the student is out. If a student doesn't catch the ball, that student is out. Each time a student goes out of the game the teacher should start the game with a new category. The last student remaining is the winner and is awarded 70 points.
*Examples of Categories: colors, animals, fruits, vegetables, things that are in your bathroom, things you can put in your nose, animals that can eat you, things that smell bad, things you can do in the kitchen, things you do after school, famous people, countries.....

Heads Up 7 Up: The students team that lands on this space will be the students picking the other students. The opposite team will be the students that sit on the floor with their eyes closed and their thumbs up behind their backs (as in the picture). Each student from the picking team will touch one student's thumb from the other team by touching it. When a student's thumb has been touched they will put their thumb in their fist, as so they cannot be chosen by another student. Once all students have picked a student from the other team then everyone sits down. The students who had just had their thumbs touched then have one guess each to guess who from the other team had picked them. If the student is correct then they get 7 points, if the student is wrong, then the student that picked them gets 7 points. After all the students have guessed, the pickers will then reveal who they had picked.
*In this game each student that guesses either wins 7 points, or the picker wins 7 points
*there should be an even amount of students on each team so that each student can play every round (teacher can play if there's an odd number of students)
*absolutely no cheating (peaking) can be allowed... I warn students before the game that if they are cheating then we all lose one round of playing the game.
*this can be a good way to teach the past tense QnA (Was it ______? Yes it was, No it wasn't)
*be sure to teach students how to sit correctly with eyes closed and thumbs up and also to put their thumbs down AFTER they have been chosen! One student can only pick one other student
Great game for any age really. Hot potato can be either a very easy game for low level students (even rolling the ball to each other), or very difficult with categories that require short sentences. (Category: Things you do when you first wake up)
