Knock-Out
Required: Basketball Hoop, 2 Balls, Dice
Icons:
Star: Starting space and choice of any spot on the board game
Basketball: 2 foul shots game
1 vs. 1 Knock-Out: Game
Team Knock-Out: Game
3 Pt. Shot: 3 point shot game
Students roll a dice to move a playing piece around the board game. Students must accumulate the most points by winning games, or accumulating the most "basketballs" through foul shots.
Games:
Basketball: The student that lands on this space will get 2 foul shots. For each foul shot made the teacher will draw a basketball on the backboard (of the board game) on the side of that team. At the end of class the team that has accumulated the most basketballs on the board wins a prize. (Depending on the class this can be 100 points, extra money cards, candy…)
1 vs. 1 Knock-Out: 2 students each get a ball and stand in front of the hoop at a designated line on the floor (foul shot line). When the teacher says go students must race to shoot the ball in the hoop from behind the line. The first student to get a basket is the winner and earns 10 points for their team. (students shoot as many times as it takes to score a basket.)
Team Knock-Out: This is similar to 1 vs. 1 knock-out except the entire team must play as a relay race. The first 2 students get balls and must shoot until they score a basket. As soon as a basket is scored by a student, the next student from that team will race to get the ball and start shooting. Each student must score a basket. When a team has all scored and are all sitting nicely they have won. Winning team can be given 50 points.
*Some students are just not good at this game and will frustrate their teams because they can't score to let the children down the line play. Be sure to say if there is complaining or yelling in a negative way that there will be a punishment (no game for 10 minutes…)
3 Pt. Shot: Designate a 3 point line that is difficult but not impossible. Each student from both teams gets to shoot once to try and score. If the shot is made then the points from that team are doubled.
* This can also just be a silly or crazy shot space instead. In this way the teacher can make up any shot that then all students will get a try. If the student makes the crazy shot then their points are doubled. Example of crazy shots: Bouncing the ball in the basket, shoot with their backs to the hoop, bounce ball off their head into the basket, shoot from sitting on the floor, shoot from lying on the floor…
