Students roll the dice to move the playing piece around the board in a clockwise manner. When a team wins a "Game" challenge they get to draw a "Trophy" on the board for their team. The team with the most trophies at the end of class is the winner.
Games:
Category Race: Each team stands in a line in front of the teacher. The two students in front of the teacher are playing. The teacher says a category (Colors, months, fruit, countries near china...) The first student to answer is the winner, and goes to the back of their line. The Loser sits down and is out. The game continues until one team is all out. The team that wins gets to draw a trophy on the board for their team.
Math Race: Each team stands in a line in front of the teacher. The two students in front of the teacher are playing. The teacher says a math question (1+1, 2X2, 5-5...) The first student to answer is the winner, and goes to the back of their line. The loser sits down and is out. The game continues until one team is all out. The team that wins gets to draw a trophy on the board for their team.

Back to Back: 2 Students sit back to back on the floor with their hands on their shoulders crossing. (Hands on shoulders so that they cannot use their hands) The two students must push against each other using their feet to try to stand up together. The team of two that stands up first is the winner. The winner gets to draw a trophy on the board for their team.
*I read about this and found it very difficult for kids to do without slipping, so I had students stand in front of their team mates so that they could push off their team mates feet for leverage. As a team they must figure out where their team should stand for the best leverage. This is shown in the pictures. *I also read that this could be done with 3 or 4 children sitting back to back but, I haven't tried |
Bottom to Top: 2 Students will work as a team to pick up a ball from the floor using only their 2 heads. The team that can pick up the ball from the floor, to a standing position, and not drop the ball first is the winner. The winner gets to draw a trophy on the board for their team.
*Students must not support the ball with hands or arms *I hinted to children that using their faces was easier than the tops of their heads |
Foot to Foot: Students lie on the floor in a line. One line for each team. Students must pass a ball using their feet from one student to the next, all the way down the line. If a ball touches the floor then it must go back to the first person to start again. In the picture I could only fit 3 students for each team. I played to the best of 3 games. After each race I substituted students from each team so that all children had a chance to play. The winner of the Challenge gets to draw a trophy on the board for their team.
