Word Search
Setup:
Create a large grid on the board using letters and numbers. Create an answer sheet of different levels of difficulty hiding words within the grid. Easiest way is to create a few different answer sheets with different categories of words.
Game:
Draw a large grid that will allow you to have enough words to last the length of the class. Create an answer sheet with the places of all of the words hidden within the grid. Students get to guess where letters are. Students guess where letters are by saying a letter and a number to choose a specific spot on the grid. (A-5…) If a student guesses the location of a letter, the teacher writes the letter, then they get to guess again. The student playing can guess until he/she guesses a spot on the grid that is an empty spot. If an empty spot is guessed, the teacher can write an "X" or another mark. When a student completes an entire word they are awarded 10 points.
*As i played, I made a category of words and told the students only the category of what was to be found. Such as Animals, Colors, Verbs, Adjectives, Countries…
*Be sure to have multiple answer sheets. When teaching classes back to back, you must have a brand new answer sheet for the following class as its easy to see where words and "X's" were written.
